Minutes of January 7, 2010 Special Meeting

Present:  P. Scalzo, S. Zaborowski, M. Morgado

Absent:  C. Barrows, D. Elpern

The meeting of the Committee on Housing and Community Development of the Danbury Housing Partnership was held in Danbury City Hall, Planning and Zoning Department conference room, 1st floor, on January 7, 2010. Chairman P. Scalzo called the meeting to order at 2:20pm.

A motion to accept the minutes of November 5, 2009 was made by M. Morgado, seconded by P. Scalzo, passed unanimously and placed on file.

Mr. Scalzo discussed the probability of John Kukulka from New Neighborhoods of producing 30 units in the Danbury community.  John had spoken highly of creating affordable housing in the Danbury area during our last committee meeting held on November 5th.  Mr. Kukulka is presently finishing two projects in lower Fairfield County and upon completion will be contacting Danbury housing representatives for discussion on housing opportunities.

Discussion entailed the utilization of the old Danbury Police Station for affordable senior housing.  The possibility of providing 15 units or more needs to be investigated in more detail.  It was recommended that Dennis Elpern provide an updated report on the Police Station at the March 4th committee meeting.

The recommendation was also made that John Kukulka should be brought before the committee in April to update all members on the status of his proposal to build in Danbury.

Mr. Scalzo has lined the property map regarding viable areas/parcels that could be used for property development.  Staff will try and provide a more concise map from Engineering to provide to the Chairman at the next scheduled meeting.

Staff indicated that Mr. Bob Botello was producing 38 units, 5 that are considered affordable units in the Danbury community.  The housing development is called Victorian Meadow and is located off of Osborne Street.  Staff will provide more information as it becomes available.

There was no further business to discuss.  A motion to adjourn was made by P. Scalzo, seconded by M. Morgado, passed unanimously.  The next regular scheduled meeting will be on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2:00pm.
