Beyond Shelter Program

Dream Homes Community Center (DHCC) administers a Beyond Shelter Connecticut grant awarded by the Connecticut Department of Social Services.  Under this program, Dream Homes provides intensive case management to individuals and families enabling them to leave emergency homeless shelters and live in housing in the community while receiving the supportive services they need to live independently.

Beyond Shelter Connecticut is an innovative program created to help people transition from emergency shelters to independent living.  The program is designed to prevent the recurrence of homelessness by providing up to one year of coordinated follow up services to households leaving shelters and transitional housing programs and their landlords.

Services provided may include education on landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities; life skills workshops on issues such as parenting and money management; assistance procuring food and furniture; as well as support in securing mental health and substance abuse treatment services.
