CITY OF DANBURY ANNOUNCES EMPLOYMENT FAIR FOR HOMELESS
The Continuum of Care’s Employment Committee has organized the City of Danbury’s first Employment Fair for the homeless. The Fair will include several vendors offering information, support and assistance in obtaining the necessary documents needed to attain a job. Information for items such as an I.D. from the Department of Motor Vehicles will be available as well as representatives from The Department of Labor, Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, Education Connection, Ability beyond Disability, Christian Community Outreach Ministries and The Bridge to Independence & Career Opportunities.
Mayor Boughton explained, “The City’s Welfare Division works to help homeless individuals with a place to stay and food to eat but they also work to help the individuals gain stability in their lives. This fair is an opportunity for these folks to take a step in the right direction and to help them find employment stability that will eventually lead to long term stability."
The City of Danbury-Welfare Division seeks to provide the community and its residents with access to municipal and community social services in an expeditious, cost effective and comprehensive manner. The division’s efforts are focused on improving access to housing and emergency shelter; improving access to medical care and coverage and improving social conditions for residents via collaboration and advocacy at the local, state and federal level by identifying needs and working to create systems of access that are inclusive of all residents in need.
The Continuum of Care’s Employment Committee is comprised of the following agencies: M.C.C.A., Catholic Charities, Ability Beyond Disability, City of Danbury-Welfare Division and A.R.C.
Residents who are homeless or may soon be faced with homelessness are encouraged to attend the Employment Fair at the City of Danbury-Welfare Division’s Emergency Shelter at 41 New Street on Friday, October 17th from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Lunch will be provided to all participants.
