Project Homeless Connect Serves More Than 150 People
Greater Danbury Continuum of Care Co-Chair Milena Sangut has announced preliminary results for Danbury Project Homeless Connect 2008 conducted on December 3, 2008 at the Elks Lodge in Danbury. The Planning Workgroup has determined that a total of 166 people received services at the event which targeted help to people who were homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. The Danbury Lions Club conducted 82 vision screenings and will follow up with the Continuum and the Danbury Housing Partnership to ensure that people in need of eyeglasses will receive them. Danbury Hospital's Seifert and Food Community Health Center provided flu shots to 83 persons. A total of seven individuals received identification cards from the Connecticut Motor Vehicle Department. Dozens of persons also took advantage of footcare services provided by Dr. David W. Mader of Family Footcare as well as dental services which were provided by Dr. Joseph V. Mooney.
Walsh Catering donated their services to provide clients and volunteers with hot breakfasts and lunches. Clients were also provided with clothing and coats due largely to clothing drives conducted by Cartus and Danbury Hospital. A major donation of clothing items was also made by WalMart. Over fifty agencies provided services as part of the event. Ms. Sangut praised the work of the organizing committee, the participating agencies, volunteers and the many sponsors and contributors to the event. The workgroup will conduct a debriefing meeting next week to analyze the event and determine final results regarding participation. Please click here to see photos from this year's event.
